Granbury Heating Contractor On The History Of Trane Air Conditioners
Granbury Heating Contractor, Glenn-Aire, On The History Of Trane Air Conditioners.
In 1931, Reuben Trane patented the first HVAC. While considered primitive by today’s standards (The first unit ran by having air blow over well water in coils), it lead to being manufactured & sold all over the world.
During the time in America when the first unit was patented, there was small demand for air conditioners in homes since the Great Depression was at its height. The first businesses to embrace the new invention were movie theaters.
With the start of WWII, engineers at Trane worked on developing an intercooler, which was utilized in Allied planes to give them the needed boost to perform against German fighters. Naval ships also needed this equipment from Trane & 1000’s of ships benefited from the technology.
The 50s saw further change when the housing industry began to grow. As the heating & cooling units became smaller & more affordable, many new homes were built with these units already installed. Military & commercial clients remained a substantial portion of the business, but more homeowners began demanding these products for residential use & took a priority position as the newest customers.
During the 80s, as energy concerns from the Oil Embargo began to circle the globe, dedicated Trane engineers were faced with a new difficulty: Keeping the initial investment of a unit low, while operating on less energy. But these engineers proved themselves through their innovation & adaptability to make the changes that met the needs of their customers.
